Crusoe Cancels $1.25B Boom Turbine Investment for AI Data Centers

Crusoe has canceled its $1.25 billion investment in 29 Boom Supersonic turbines, each with a power output of 42 megawatts. This decision was confirmed by Blake Scholl, CEO of Boom Supersonic, who stated that the turbines will no longer be part of Crusoe’s primary power mix at its Abilene data center. The initial data center in Abilene has a capacity of 1.2 gigawatts, with a new 900-megawatt facility under construction for Microsoft. Crusoe has raised $3.9 billion in funding and is currently building data centers for OpenAI and Oracle. Andrew Schmitt, a spokesperson for Crusoe, emphasized the company's focus on innovative energy sources for its AI factories, stating, "We’re bringing new campuses online across the country." The first turbine deliveries were scheduled for 2027, with a target output of 1 gigawatt by 2028, but this partnership has now been deemed not the right fit for Crusoe's immediate needs.
