TailLoR: Protecting Principal Components in Parameter-Efficient Continual Learning

For instance, on the CIFAR-100 dataset, TailLoR achieves a 5% increase in accuracy compared to the standard EWC (Elastic Weight Consolidation) method, with a final accuracy of 82% after 10 tasks. Additionally, it outperforms LWF (Learning without Forgetting) by 4% on the same benchmark. Limitations — The authors acknowledge that while TailLoR reduces interference with dominant singular directions, it may still be susceptible to other forms of forgetting not addressed by the soft spectral penalty.
