Cognition Partners with DOE for Genesis Mission

Cognition has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to join the Genesis Mission, an initiative launched in November 2025 aimed at doubling the productivity of American science within a decade.

The Genesis Mission, described by the DOE as "America's Manhattan Project for AI," seeks to leverage advanced technologies to enhance scientific capabilities. Cognition's autonomous AI software engineer, Devin, is set to play a critical role in this mission, with users including the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Cognition's platform has achieved FedRAMP Class D (High) status, and both Devin Desktop and CLI are authorized under this classification. Additionally, Devin complies with ITAR and IL4–IL6 workloads, ensuring its suitability for sensitive government applications.

As part of its contribution, Cognition will provide in-kind offerings such as code security scans and remediation reports for national laboratory codebases. This partnership aligns with the DOE's goal of fostering innovation and scientific progress through enhanced tools and technologies, as emphasized by Cognition's statement that "scientific progress has always depended on the tools available to the people doing the work."

This collaboration marks a significant step in the ongoing development of AI applications within federal agencies and builds on previous initiatives in the AI sector, including Cognition's partnership with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management in the Tech Force program.
