Cognition Expands Devin AI Tool Adoption Among Major Latin American Banks

Cognition's AI software engineering tool, Devin, is now being utilized by 75% of Itaú’s technology teams, significantly enhancing their software development processes. This follows Cognition's recent expansion announcement in Latin America, where the number of developers on GitHub has surged to 15.8 million, reflecting a fivefold increase since 2020.

At Itaú, Devin has documented over 300,000 repositories and has automated the resolution of 70% of security vulnerabilities. The tool has enabled a sixfold acceleration in migrating legacy .NET services to Java, contributing to a 20-30% increase in engineering throughput.

Other major users of Devin include Nubank, which serves 140 million customers and has achieved a 20x reduction in costs associated with migrating its monolithic architecture. Santander and Natura are also leveraging Devin to enhance their software engineering capabilities.

Cognition emphasizes that the current systems in place have not kept pace with the growing developer talent in the region, urging local banks, telcos, retailers, and governments to consider building software locally rather than relying on imports. This expansion reflects a broader trend of increasing technological self-sufficiency in Latin America.
