Cognition's revenue run rate surged from $73 million to over $500 million following its merger with Windsurf one year ago. The combined team expanded from 44 to 350 employees, significantly enhancing development capabilities. In this period, the team has written over 20 million lines of code and executed more than 100 bug fixes in a single wave. Notably, Cognition launched its most advanced AI model, SWE-1.7, last week, which is now the most capable and efficient model developed to date. The first product, Wave 11, was shipped just three days after the merger.
Cognition also introduced several new products, including Cognition for Government and the Devin Desktop, a software engineering platform. Future developments are planned, with features like Voice Mode and Named Checkpoints set for July 2025, and a series of additional enhancements scheduled through 2026, including security features in Devin Review and support for an Android emulator.
The Cognition team emphasized their collaborative ethos, stating, "There's only one boat and we're all in it together." This merger and subsequent growth reflect a strategic alignment that could reshape their approach to AI tools and software development.
