EvTexture++: Event-Driven Texture Enhancement for Video Super-Resolution

Problem

Method
EvTexture++ introduces a novel architecture that includes a customized texture enhancement branch and an iterative texture enhancement module. The texture enhancement branch is designed to progressively exploit high-temporal-resolution event information, allowing for gradual refinement of texture regions across multiple iterations. The iterative module enhances texture recovery by utilizing event data to restore fine details. Additionally, a temporal texture alignment module is incorporated to address inter-frame consistency issues, estimating event-guided texture-aware flow for precise alignment of textures across frames. The framework is designed to be a plug-and-play solution, compatible with existing VSR models, thereby enhancing their performance without requiring extensive modifications.

Results
The authors conducted experiments on five datasets, demonstrating that EvTexture++ achieves state-of-the-art performance in VSR tasks. Notably, when integrated into recent VSR models, EvTexture++ yields significant improvements, achieving up to 1.55 dB gains in Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) on the texture-rich Vid4 dataset compared to baseline models. The results indicate that the proposed method not only enhances texture quality but also maintains temporal consistency, outperforming existing techniques in both qualitative and quantitative assessments.

Limitations
The authors acknowledge that while EvTexture++ significantly improves texture enhancement, it may still be sensitive to the quality of input event data. Additionally, the iterative nature of the texture enhancement process could lead to increased computational overhead, which may limit real-time applications.
