Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Elite Extreme Gen 6 Chips

Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 smartphone processors. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme features a mixture-of-experts model with 30 billion parameters, significantly larger than Apple's 20-billion-parameter model released in June. Both chips are designed to enhance AI functionalities, enabling improved personalization for AI agents and the capability to run complete voice-in and voice-out agents. They also support advanced video recording, with the Elite Extreme capable of 8K at 60fps and 4K at 240fps for ultra HD slow-motion. Qualcomm is currently developing 40 AI devices that will leverage these new chips. This follows a trend noted by Apple CEO John Ternus earlier this month, emphasizing the increasing use of smartphones for AI applications over dedicated devices.
