Anthropic Launches Molecular Biology Lab with 950 AI Agents

Last Wednesday, Anthropic announced the launch of its molecular biology lab, utilizing 950 AI agents named Claude. These agents successfully identified patterns in molecular biology within 21 hours, narrowing down from 200,000 candidates to a select few worth further exploration. This initiative follows OpenAI's earlier claim that its agents solved a million-dollar math problem earlier this month, highlighting a growing trend in AI's role in scientific discovery.

Eli Lilly's chair and CEO endorsed a viral post by biologist Mario Rodríguez Mestre from the University of Copenhagen, which commented on Anthropic's findings. Lucas Harrington noted that while finding clusters of genes can be straightforward, the real challenge lies in understanding their significance. He emphasized the need for AI companies to set high expectations for their systems, suggesting that this will help the scientific community recognize the importance of future AI-driven discoveries.
